CORNISH ECO-FRIENDLY HOLIDAY COTTAGES - LITTLE GWENDREATH - NAMED AS ONE OF BRITAIN’S MOST INSPIRING FIRMS

26 AUGUST 2022: Little Gwendreath Holiday Cottages, based on Cornwall’s Lizard Peninsula, has been selected as one of the nation’s 100 most inspiring small firms by the Small Business Saturday UK campaign, as it marks its ten-year anniversary.

Little Gwendreath Holiday Cottages, owned and run by Steve and Sarah Moss, are a collection of four, two-bedroom cottages which are quiet, cosy and offer authentic Cornish Eco-Friendly holidays with nature at the heart. It has been chosen to be part of this year’s SmallBiz100 line-up, which showcases impressive, independent businesses from across the nation.

Now in its tenth year in the UK Small Business Saturday will return on 3 December 2022, with a mission to support and celebrate the UK’s 5.5 million small businesses, particularly as they face mounting economic challenges over the winter.

Steve and Sarah Moss, owners said:

“We are honoured to join Small Business Saturday as part of #SmallBiz100 for its special milestone 10 year anniversary. We have been inspired, encouraged and benefited massively from being part of the Small Business Sustainability Basics community and we will use this opportunity to raise the profile of the climate emergency and the role that eco-tourism can play. We can’t wait to introduce our cottages to more people and to share how you can holiday sustainably."

Little Gwendreath Holiday Cottages will be profiled by the campaign on 25th November 2022 as part of the 100-day countdown to Small Business Saturday UK.

“It’s fantastic to celebrate small firms just like Little Gwendreath Holiday Cottages as part of our 10-year anniversary of the campaign,” said Michelle Ovens CBE, Director of Small Business Saturday UK.

“Over the past decade we have been able to spotlight dynamic businesses from across the nation, who remind us of the incredible tenacity and determination of small firms in this country. It’s brilliant to have Little Gwendreath Holiday Cottages in this year’s SmallBiz100 line-up.”

A grassroots, not-for-profit campaign, Small Business Saturday which first came to the UK in 2013 has grown into an iconic campaign celebrating small business success and encouraging consumers to ‘shop local’ and support businesses in their communities.

The campaign was originally founded by American Express in the U.S. in 2010, and the brand remains the principal supporter of the campaign in the UK.

On Small Business Saturday customers across the UK go out and support all types of small businesses, from independent shops and restaurants to small service and b2b based businesses like accountants and digital marketeers. Many small businesses take an active role in promoting the day by hosting events and offering promotions.

Over the time the campaign has run in the UK it has engaged millions each year, with combined spend on the day topping over £1 billion.

Small Business Saturday attracts huge attention on the day itself, with an impact that lasts all year. Last year the campaign trended at number one in the UK on Twitter, with the Prime Minister, leader of the opposition and the Mayor of London among those publicly supporting the campaign. Over 90% of local councils also supported the campaign.

About Little Gwendreath Holiday Cottages

Little Gwendreath Holiday Cottages is a collection of four, two-bedroom cottages based on Cornwall's beautiful Lizard Peninsula famous for its dramatic scenery, sandy beaches and rugged natural landscapes. Our location is remote enough to be peaceful, but close enough to Cornwall's larger attractions to be a great base for trips out.

To the east of our site is a small stream and path that leads down to the beach at Kennack Sands. There are two cafés next to the beach and you can also learn to surf at Kennack Sands Surf School. The area surrounding Little Gwendreath is a national nature reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, complete with rare wildlife species and spectacular scenery. On clear nights the Milky Way can be seen. There are many rewarding walks near us, not least the South West Coast Path which passes by Kennack Sands.

Our cottages are quiet, cosy and offer authentic Cornish holidays with nature at the heart. We are very conscious that everything we do has an impact and we want to tread as lightly as we can. We are passionate about reducing our footprint and inspiring guests to make small changes themselves.

Little Gwendreath Holiday Cottages won Gold in the Ethical, Responsible and Sustainable category at The Cornwall Tourism Awards, were commended in the same category at The South West England Tourism Excellence Awards and came runner-up in the Carbon Neutral category at The Cornwall Sustainability Awards.
